Blackbook is one of England’s most innovative wineries making wines that stand out for their creativity, and their GMF is no exception. This creamy, slightly wild‘col fondo’ style Seyval Blanc comes from grapes grown in Oxfordshire but is made in this urban winery in Battersea underneath a railway bridge. The focus of Sergio and Lynsey, who own and run Blackbook, is to make minimal intervention wines with a natural approach. This cloudy fizz is a natural conversation starter and with its full body and creamy texture it is a food-friendly wine that will sit pretty at many a dinner table or social situation.
Serving Suggestions
Serve chilled in a wide rimmed sparkling wine glass or a small white wine glass. Always be extra careful when opening sparkling wines under crown cap, they can open with a bang! This is ideal as an afternoon bubbly and versatile enough to make a good picnic bubbly for a wide range of dishes. Try it out with smoked trout pâté, salamis and sarnies!
Tasting Notes
The cloudy colour might raise a few eyebrows but as soon as you taste this, you’ll see what the benefit of unfiltered sparkling wine is — it is much creamier! In the glass, the delicate aromas of elderflower and grapefruit so typical of Seyval Blanc emerge and continue with juicy notes of citrus and blossom through to the finish. It’s a fun and fresh fizz, but creamy and mouth-filling too, ticking lots of boxes especially if you are serving it to a crowd.
